You have come to the right place for information regarding life in the islands. I currently live in Oklahoma, but my husband and I have visited St. Croix twice now and fell in love with it from the moment we stepped foot on it. We immediately began fostering a dream of moving there some day. Although our plans have slowed down considerable simply due to the logistics and expense of such a move, we still plan to get there some day. The people on this board have given me so much food for thought - things I would have never even considered. Their generosity with their experiences and knowledge of day-to-day life on the islands has been, and continues to be, invaluable to my husband and I. We've made friends with some of these people - most of whom we've never met face to face.

For me, it's the people who separate the islands from other places I've been. Every experience, except for one, we've had on island has put us in contact with people with such generosity of spirit it is at times overwhelming. I hope you realize your dream of moving to the islands, and that it is everything you expect and more. Proceed with caution, have a nest-egg to help get you through the first year or so, and have a back-up plan for returning to the mainland if island life turns out not to be for you. But if you're looking for a slower, simpler life outside of the rat race that is life on the mainland, I can think of no better place to go! Good luck with your dream and welcome to the forum!

Still dreaming of St. Croix someday,
Saundra
