Okay, what is the latest real scoop on i phones? And are they hyphenated or not- i-phone?

Can you get one with a 340 number? I have AT&T. Can you buy one here or do you have to get one in the states? I keep hearing different stories. Captain Jay, where are you? Anyone...anyone??

They are currently in stock at Boolchand's or Royal Caribbean in town. I can't remember which one it was but they are next to each other. 340 numbers ARE able to be activated.

I HIGHLY recommend not visiting the local AT&T, but calling the 800 number to help with activation which is what we did.

I spoke with AT&T a couple of weeks ago, and they said the best was to get your phone locally, but then to go to Apple/install iTunes to activate your phone over the internet. I'm curious to see how you make out. My phone broke but I'm waiting until May/June for the iPhone 2.0.

We had to hook it up thru iTunes first but then it will get to a point where you have to call the 800 number to complete the steps because we are in the VI.

Hope this helps! iPhones are very user friendly.

Thanks guys. AT&T here said they do not support i-phones. We bought a different smart phone. Smarter than I am, I'm afraid. 🙁

That's a shame because they do work fine there.

That's why you should never go to a local cell phone store and call the 800 numbers for accurate answers.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. We still haven't changed Deb's over but it work great on St Thomas, St John and St Croix. That is first hand by the way. Matt from Lion In Da Sun just activated his new one with a 340 area code. He had someone in the states buy it as a "gift" then did the activation from here. I will send Matt an email and try to get the details of his activation.

Here is Matt's response via emial this morning to his experience.

"Hi Jay,

I just used itunes and everything worked fine......I had version 7.5 of itunes when I did it. There was a slight delay (1 hour) after going through the process while at&t was "verifying" the iphone or the phone number, but it went really smooth.

Car is running great, you gave a great recommendation.

Thanks,

Matt"

Not all phone stores are equal. Some are 'corporate owned' ...but many are independently owned and operated. They care a limited variety of phones, don't always have the newest phones, and have less service and leeway in handling your account than company owned stores do. -Word to the wise.

If anyone wants to jailbrake (unlock) your iphone so you can load lit up with free applications/games and cool cusotm themes let me know.
I can send you a link to download the free software , and it takes all of 15 mins ti unlock your iphone...and is so easy a kid could do t.

FYI--- jailbreaking means that you can also use any simm card in your iphone, so you are not stuck with AT&T.

This is what i did to mine...just sharing.
