I've made up my mind. I'm going to move to St.Croix. I Just bought my one way ticket for the 28th of June. I have no job,no place to live and no money. I thought that I would just live on the beach and eat mangos. If you think that I am not serious meet me at the St.Croix airport. I'll be on the American Airlines flight from Miami. I believe that the plane lands at arround 2:30pm. I could really use a ride to Sandy Point near Fredricksted. By the way I'll be traveling with my cat. Thanks for your help if you can help.

Hey cowboy, i hoped for your sake mangos are in season by then.

You caught me. The truth is that I am moving to STX, I do have a job, money, and a place to live. And frankly I don't really like mangos enough to eat them every day. My cat and I dont realy need a ride from the airport, and I couldn't live on the beach. I would get too much sand in my crack. See ya soon..

I was worried about you for minute, Aaron. The islands get alot of drifters, but they don't usually broadcast their hopeless plans on the internet like you did. You're funny. Have fun on STX!

Chris, I thought that you've never been to STX, someone must have told you about the delightful pigs. The pigs are really quite impressive. They pierce the cans of nonalcoholic beer with their teeth, then they look at you, actually one eye seems to be looking at you and the other is off in another direction, but anyway, you get to have an epiphany about what's REALLY not important in life and what might be.

Beer can smashing pigs? Are they really pigs? As in pink w/prickly hair and curley tail or are we talking pigish people? Do tell. This post had me rolling and I'm dieing to know about this, dare I say, tradition? Hmm, BBQ pork ribs and beer sure do sound good right now...

The song made famous by Dick Solberg, the Sun Mountain Fiddler. Buster was slain many years ago, but lives in the hearts and minds of pig fans everywhere!!

HEY YOU GUYYS,

Remember there are simple mainland type people reading these posts... like er me. Why would a pig want NA Beer?
Why give the pig beer?
Was pig plural?
Are there still beer drinking pigs? (besides the standard stateside definition)
Did Dick eat Buster?

Thanks in advance, Craig

Elle,

I'm not sure when the tradition began, but the pigs actually used to drink real beer until the people from the animal shelter called the restaurant on animal cruelty. The pigs drink up to 2 cases of beer a day. One pigs name is Oreo because he's black and white and the other is J.J. the pigs are huge! They live to be about 25 years old. They have really sharp teeth and when you hand them a beer, the pigs will snatch it from your hand, pierce the can with their teeth and tip their head backwards so the can drains down their throat. It's really entertaining. The pigs seem to enjoy the whole thing, they pop up from their stalls when you walk into their little barn and they hang their arms and head over the fence and wait for a beer. I'd be curious to know if the restaurant makes BBQ out of their beer drinking friends when they die.

LOL, don't know why this is so funny to me. I guess you can take the girl out of Idaho but you can't take the Idaho out of the girl.

MD, thanks for the indepth explanation, like most people, I process visually and you had me rolling. Animal rights got into it huh? What do you guys think? It's okay to feed them slop but not beer? Maybe I'm being disrespectful but I think it is pretty funny. Thanks for explaining you guys.

Note to self...
Go see beer guzzeling pigs...

I think that these pigs are quite lucky because they are kept for entertainment purposes only which is a heck of a lot better than the purpose of most other pigs

i can't believe all this pig talk ..i love it because although my husband and i are moving to st. croix in 2/3 weeks and have been there at least 20- times we never never tire of the domino club and feeding those pigs a beer, it also has to do with the atmosphere, the owner and the great people we have met there..we both agree the jonny cakes and rum punches are some of the best on the island

If memory serves, isn't there a tombstone/monument erected to the original Buster? If so, probably not barbecue - I believe the animals are pets.

To the newbies, this isn't anywhere near as tacky as it sounds - I know because the presumed tackiness was what kept me from going for way too many years. It is great fun, the people are wonderful, and (maybe best of all) there are the two home-brewed concoctions - mamawana and babash - that are delicious and potent. Check out http://www.vinow.com/news/jun03/pigs.php for info and photos.
