Hey guys. I was wondering, and call me crazy, but do people who have vacation homes need house sitters to take care of them while they're gone ? I'd love to do that and would like some info on stuff like that. If anyone could help me, that would be great.

Some have people who watch their homes while they are away, but I think most would just rent them out on a short term lease. And I don't mean to burst your bubble, but they usually have a very long list of people that they know personnally that want to house-sit for them. I'm not saying that you won't find one, but I'd be very surprised if you did. Why? There are a lot of people on these islands already that would love to have free housing. If they are looking for someone (i.e.-they don't have a list), they would most likely ask their friends first. The odds of them not finding someone that way are very slim. I have never seen an ad for someone looking in the 7 years I've lived here. Sorry!

My mom suggested it. I knew it would be unlikely, but I just wanted to make sure.
🙂

Thanks though

Imagine the want ads:

Wanted: Nice stranger to live in my fully furnished and paid for home in the beautiful Virgin Islands while I am away for months on end.

But Michael, you can start a company to specialize in home concierge. I run a concierge company and you would be amazed at what people are looking for. While I agree with Marty about people looking to friends, if they knew there was such a service I am sure they would be interested. Remember Jack Nicholson on the Shining (nevermind that he went a little nuts)? This is pretty much what he was hired to do at the big spooky resort.
