Hello all-

Well I got down to stt about a week ago and my roommate and I are having a tough time finding a place. We are looking for a one bedroom with rent between $600 - 800 a month. We do not have a vehicle, but will get one if we find a nice enough place in the country. We would prefer to live on the north side or the east end if at all possible. We love stt and want to stay, but we need to find a place asap. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a direct connection to the internet so if you would call me at 777-1448 that would be awesome.

Thanks

Nate from Montana

Nate: I don't have any leads for you, but I hope you have the Thursday Island Trader as I noticed several places in your price range. I would like to repeat the common piece of advice to folks who want to move here- that you should have enough money to last for several months (3-6 at least). You moved here a week ago, in high season, and are having a tough time finding a place. If you have enough to get you through to May or so, the housing market should get somewhat easier....All the best in your search.

I am planning on moving down there sometime between May and July of this year. Anything you can let me know about how it is going for you so far and any advice from your experiences would be great.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hello Brandy,

There are a few moving stories in the What to Expect Section if you haven't read them already. If there is anything in particular that you are wondering about?

Nate - Good Luck and I look forward to hearing about how its going for you. Definately check the Island Trader out - comes out on Thursdays!

Nate - if you see this before we chat again on the phone - Pelican Point so named by those that live in that area, is better known by most islanders as Linquist Point as it is the Westernmost tip of land that faces Lindquist Beach or Bay or something like that. If you should try to venture out there again, tell the cabbie this and see if he can't get you guys to the right place.

Let me know.

Just checking to see how the apartment search is going. My husband, Petrus, said that you stopped by seeking any tips.
We saw a couple of signs on Solberg hill (we will get the numbers tomorrow).
Keep us posted and good luck!

Hi All,
Wow Nate, kind of scary, My husband and I are coming down to STT the end of April, We have been offered jobs and the first two weeks of lodging so we will have alittle time to find a place, we will be looking for a place the first of May, to mid may, any insite to the do's and don'ts would be helpful, i.e. where not to look.(LOL). We are not bringing our cars so we too will be without wheels. Thought about getting a scooter for quick trips here and there, but wouldn't want to use it full time, anyone out there have any thoughts on the use of scooters. or anyone leaving the island and wish to sell a scooter or car (cheap!), Read the story about cats and am having second thoughts about bringing mine, he is a very large outdoor cat and would eat me and the house if I tried to keep him inside all the time. Worry about the heat too for him, he is long haired and black so the heat may be too much too.

Nate - I've misplaced your phone number, but if you see this call me as I have two possible apts for you. One is a studio at Sapphire available April 1st - $850. The other is a 3 bedroom with roommates situation and the home is packed with all the extras....everything included $675. ..3/29/04 4:40pm

Duh, how slow can I be - actually since they did their original post awhile back I knew they'd changed hotels a couple of times and I thought that number was for one they left...dummy me I didn't even try.

Thanks for pointing it out - I have just relayed the information I had and learned that both of them had gotten jobs at the Ritz. Way to go guys!

Thanks PH

Hello Janice,

What do you mean "no cat stories"? If you mean no one moving with them - there are several folks on here that moved with cats, and there is one "what to expect" story from a couple that moved with cats and dogs...

What did you want to know?
