If I buy and ship products to VI, is there import duty or tax if the products are coming from the US? Or is it just the same as if I'd ordered something from Illinois and had it shipped to Indiana (as an example).

There can be both duties and use tax.

If the total value of the shipment is less than $1,000 no use tax. Not sure how duties would work if product purchased outside US.

If the value of the shipment is over $1,000 you are obligated to pay 4% of the value as use tax to VI. If the goods are of foreigh manufacture you can expect duties to be charged also.

It is not the same as shipping between states.

If you ship something from the VI to the USA you will have to fill out a customs statement.
