There are fire ants, but I've never seen them swarm. If our first place there were some potted plants in a side yard left by the previous tenant. They'd been there for a while and where partially under the soil. I went in bare-handed and with sandals on my feet to get them to re-pot and I got nailed by fire ants on both my feet and hands. Not a good thing. On my toes especially I had weeping sores for 2-3 weeks.

I have seen the fire ants swarm here. A tip - spray WD40 on the bite ASAP & it really reduces the reaction. If I get it on there in the first couple minutes I don't even get the white pustules - just red bumps (I keep a travel can in my golf bag as they can be bad on the courses here). WD40 also helps with centipede bites too.
