International drivers license

I have an international drivers license and one from the states, do I still have to get a VI drivers license? I've been told that you loose your right to vote in the US if you get a VI drivers license, is that true?
Any information is appreciated.

To be more correct, every time you change your residency you must reregister to vote. You don't lose the right. If you move from Los Angeles to the People's Republic of San Francisco, you must reregister.

So if you move to the USVI's you would have to reregister. However, since there is no voting in federal elections, that won't be an issue.

When You become a full time resident of the USVI you are legally obliged to relinquish your stateside voting and driving priveleges. And register here for both.

However there is a "grey area". If you are not totally committed to living in the USVI you are still considered a visitor and do not need to change your voting or driving records.

After a period of time you will need to decide and then do the right thing.

It is sad when people like "Promoguy" are so ignorant and "Fox News deluded" that they make comments like the "peoples republic of san francisco". We now have a federal government that frightens most Americans. His comment about San Francisco does nothing to improve that situation.

DB, sorry for my comments. I'll try to be more considerate of everyone's feelings and yours specifically in all future posts.

People's Republic of San Francisco? - being from there for most of my adult life - this was not disrespectful at all. The bay area is special in so many ways. It could actually be thought of as a seperate place from the rest of the USA. I take comments like that as a compliment.

I bet db was just having a bad moment -

Promoguy, quit being such a wimp. You were right the first time. After all, we need places to park our warships, don't we?

Hey Jason4,

If you're willing to go through all of the effort and expense to make the big move down here, why not commit yourself to being a Virgin Islander all the way by registering to vote here? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see all new residents take as much interest in schools, public policies, and laws of the USVI as they tend to have in the beaches and great weather.

I know it's hard to mentally accept giving up the right to vote in federal elections, but you'll get over it. Maybe it will help if you think of how much more weight your vote will carry here where the population is just over 100,000!
