Hello,

Does anyone have any suggestions for an internet service provider that is able to get a good signal at Sapphire Beach Resort ? Have tried Broadband and Innovative...doesn't work. And will need it for work!

Earlier this year I needed to spend a lot of time on STT. (I live on STX) I rented a condo at Mahogony Run and found an AT&T Wireless adapter was my best option.

After you buy the adapter you need to sign up for one of their few available data packages that are easily renewable when you need more time/data. My plan was something like 30 days or so many GHz of data use - which ever came first. It works through their 3G cell phone system. So if you have good cell service at Sapphire it should work fine for you. If you use the AT&T adapter at an AT&T hotspot air time is free.

STJ:

I spend 4 months on STT each year and work from there.

In the past I used Choice wireless because I had a direct line of-sight connect capability. However, Choice was not always reliable.

My solution was....I purchased a wifi amplifier that is used on sailboats (to provide more range while moored or in a marina with free wifi). You will also need a 12 VDC transformer to power the amplifier. My total cost was about $200.

I then connected the amplifier unit to the router (in my condo) and had great success. I picked up 40 (forty) wifi signals. Some as far away as the BVIs and STJ. My goal was to connect to our resort lobby router and utilize that service....I was successful.

Hope this helps.

Future Islander. Where can I purchase a trustworthy wifi amplifier? That's really good information. I didn't even think of that.

Beaches:

I sent you a PM.

Also note: Although I received 40 wifi signals only 2 were "unprotected".....in other words didn't require a password. I am also about 230 feet above sea level.

Our resort lobby provides free wifi service to guests and uses a password protected system.

First double check with the owner you are renting from. More and more provide free wi-fi, some of which are excellent signals. Of course, it's still the islands, and not as fast as the mainland.
