We just use dial-up - vipowernet - through the phone company, Innovative. We only use it for e-mail and to surf the net, no big downloads. It's working whenever the phone is (phone was out for 4 weeks in December) and it's only about $20 a month. For us it's all we need.

My husband has a Cingular cell phone. It works fine. We pay about $35 base per month on a 2-year contract.

Here is internet info. (there is a newer service missing from the description) There are three basic types of Internet service in the U.S.V.I; dial up, wireless ADSL and Wireline ADSL. Dial Up is offered by local Internet Service providers, primarily VIPowernet and Viaccess and runs about $20 a month. Mainland companies like AOL and MSN also provide Internet dial up service. Wireless ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line), which has a small antenna on your roof, is offered by VIAccess. Residential rates are around $100 per month and reliability is very good. But coverage is somewhat poor in terms of the entire island. A site survey will need to be done before you can sign up. They offer this service free. There is a tie-in discount if you also subscribe to their wireless cable TV (Antilles Wireless) service. Speeds are reported at 150-180K Wireline ADSL is run over existing telephone lines ADSL. Rates are much lower, around $70 dollars per month with an installation charge of around $200.00. This service is offered by VIPowerNet. Reliability is good; speeds are reported at 140-170 K in most areas. However the closer to the telco switch the faster speeds will be.

Cell phones: Cellular service is also available and is provided by Sprint, Cingular Wireless, Centennial and Innovative Communication.

HI-

I dont really have any info with this, but when you call your carrier, remember that you can carry your existing number to a new carrier now - not sure abut all the way to the VI, but worth looking into -
