I am in conversation about a job offer if St. Croix and wanted some in put from those who live there. I am a Nurse Practitioner interviewing for a job with the VI Dept of Health in the family planning clinic in Christiansted and a satellite clinic in Fredericksted. Does anyone know of these clinics and the reputation of the clinic and the doctor that I would be working with Dr. Marc Jerome (an OB/GYN)?

SInce this is a gov't job I've been told the process/paperwork to get down there would take several months. Does anyone else have any experience in the healthcare setting with a relocation? How long was the process, etc?

Any help/info you can offer would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
Lora

Hello Lora,

You might have to just take a leap of faith... I do hope perhaps someone can share insight on moving to work at the clinic you mentioned - however I don't have anything I can offer as assistance. If that clinic is similar to the ones on St. Thomas which I have more insight on - you might work with many families that are on government assitance, young women - some may be high school students - as teen pregnancy is an issue here, many single mothers and children - if the facility has a section for examining kids. Your services are needed! and I hope your experienes moving and living in St. Croix are rewarding :-).

As for government work related paper work taking a while - yes! If you have a 'godmother' working there if might go faster. 🙂 But several months sounds good.

All the best

Hi Lora,
I'm a Certified Nurse-Midwife and I'm heading to St. Croix in a week to work at GFL Hosp and possibly the Fredriksted clinic. Please email me - I'd like to stay in touch.

Lora and Susanna... perhaps when you have both settled in on St. Croix you could post your opinions of nursing there... many people ask - and it would be great to have some first hand accounts to refer them to. Thanks in advance and all the best!!
