I will be visiting Saint Croix for ten days in early Aug., making a decision about moving there. I am a chef, at present own a catering business, and also experience in event planning. What are the job prospects? I would like to do some job interviews while I'm there. I would also like to know of the major food service distributors that service the islands...possible job with one of them. I have also had thoughts as marketing myself as a personal chef to seasonal visitors with homes? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Rivergypsy,

There is going to be a Summer Get Together in St. Croix for all vacationers and locals who have been communicating on this message board. it is tenatively set for Aug. 8, but no location yet. You might watch the threads and attend if you will be there the first part of August.

Hello Esther,

I would imagine your job prospects would be at large resorts; Divi, Buccaneer and Carambola in their resturants/events areas (you might look at their web sites and then contact their human resource dept.), also at restaurants. You can do both work at a restaurant and do a small personal business doing catering, event planning and personal chef work.

The phone book might assist with companies that do catering just so you get an idea of number of people already in the field. www.viphonebook.com

Good Luck.
