J'ouvert stabbing, thoughts on STT?

So as I understand it, this is the second time in a row that J'ouvert has had violence recently. This year - robbery and stabbing, last year shooting?

What is going on with STT? It appears that the violence is getting worse before its getting better. With our relocation plans, we are leaning towards STX, but considering STT because it is very alluring having STJ and the BVI as our back yard. But, if you can't even go out to public celebrations without it being shut down due to violence what is the point of even considering it?

I wouldn't worry about it. In recent years, there has always been fighting during Jouvert. 5,000 people are outside, half of them are drunk out their mind - what do you expect? A simple YouTube search can yield many examples of different islands (including STX, STT and BVI) where fights have broken out in the middle of Jouvert. Just try not to be the victim. As for STT jouvert yesterday, the person who committed the robbery was the same person who was later stabbed, so it wasn't like a random incident.

I think that you, as a potential "ex-pat," wouldn't necessarily fall victim to the type of violence that goes on in Jouvert (which is mostly turf/gang violence among wayward youths).

I completely agree with you. I just seems unappealing when you would have to expect these kinds of things to happen. What is the point of having the festival if they're just going to close it down early because of violence?
