Just a Question
For those with legal experience..
Forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question..
Is it possible for the people of the VI to file a class action lawsuit against the government for the amount of tires we go through from all the potholes (STT I hear you guys don't have this problem) plus damage to suspension, sideswipes, basically dangerous roads...not necessarily seeking money...just wanting to wake them up. What is the tax we pay on gas for?
In a year we've been through 8 tires.
I'm feeling your pain. Same here.
3 tires in 11 months here.....ugg...im about to just suck it up and just get All-Terrain tires
lawd the potholes in DC are big enough to hold a boat........and the government LIVES there.....lol
NO, the people in power work there but live somewhere else. But then again, maybe they figure the harm they do to us as crime and that is why DC has one of the highest crime rates.:D
I have a friend who put nice rims on her car. She hit a bad pothole and irearablely damaged the wheel and tire. She filed a claim with the VIPD over three months ago and hasn't had any response, yet.
In general terms, a government cannot be sued for such things.
I have been told (by a tire retailer) that one must get a police report from the scene of the blowout or whatever. One then takes the police report and the bill for the tire etc to the atty gen office, and he said you would get your money...never tried it. He also said w/o the pr, no claim.
the one time we had a real pothole blowout, my kids were in the car alone, about 10 PM, in an area where their cell phones would not work. A police car w/2 officers stopped...and refused to call us or do anything else, just said they had to go and off they went....leaving my kids at the side of the road. Unfortunately my kids did not get a car # or name of the cops....so getting a report made is close to impossible, I would think.
I hear it's a challenge to get the police to come when there is a real crime. What chance will you have getting them to come for a blowout?
A tip! Don't buy a car with the really large dia. wheels and very low sidewalls. If necessary replace them with smaller dia. wheels and a larger sidewall tire. That way there is more cushion effect and you will get a better ride. You just have to make sure the wheels you put on will clear the brake caliper's. The car will not know the difference as far as speedometer or computer is concerned as long as you keep the same overall dia.
