Does anyone know how to form a Limited Liability Company (LLC) in the USVI? Appreciate any guidance in this area...

You should be able to contact an attorney and have them draw it up for you.

Lots of steps to actually set up the business. Obtaining a certificate of existence is step one. I thought that was all I needed but when I went to open a business checking account they wanted several other arcane documents.

Try calling Jarco Business Services (Julio Rhymer) 340/775-4498.

Ask him to tell you about ALL of the documents you'll need and ask him what he charges to get it done.

With the recent change many government positions since the election of a new governor, expect lots of snafus ridiculous delays in getting everything done.

Thanks for the information. I was having trouble find out if the USVI even allowed LLC's (I assume so from the many banking sites I've seen that calim to be USVI LLC's...) What exactly does the Certificate of Existence do?

A Certificate Of Existence shows that your company, "...was duly registered to conduct business in the Territory on (date) and has a legal existence as a Limited Liability Company..." It's one of many bureaucratic hurdles. The highest hurdle is licensing, which took me (or my lawyer, really) 4 months, and that was for a simple business set-up.

Jules is right. As my lawyer told me recently, "Corporations [the government department] is in chaos after the change in administration. The new staff is downright hostile."

I also recommend Ed LeBron, LeBron and Associates Consulting Services, on STT at 340-776-4678.

Hightly recommend LeBron. When I was thinking of opening a DBA on STT they answered all questions and sent paperwork. Excellant choice if you decide to open a business in the VI's.

Anyone have experience with forming an LLC in STX??

I was checking out the Dept of Licensing & Consumer Affairs website last week, but have been getting an error message for the past several days saying the link is broken.

Licensing has been down since Easter, I'm still waiting for a business license from them. Hopefully it will be up soon.
