Hi,

Would someone be able to provide me with some names of companies that I might contact regarding shipping quotes for household goods and cars from Michigan to STT? I have already received a quote from Tropical Shipping, but I would like to get some additional quotes. Also, any feedback regarding these various companies would be greatly appreciated as well :)!

Hello Mell,

There are a couple options in the shipping section of this site, check them and request a quote... click here https://www.vimovingcenter.com/shipping/.

Hi Islander,

Thank you for providing me with the link.

I contacted Managed Freight and received a "ball park" quote from them. The gentleman I spoke to Lee, was very helpful and informative.

Unfortunately, Door-to-Door does not service Michigan as an origin.

If anyone else happens to know of any other freight companies I might contact, please let me know :)!

You might try this company Bob Lynch Moving & Storage, 340 774 5872. Ask him which agents in the mainland he works with. Call a couple of them for quotes. They will definitely do door to door work.

He's a member of the Household Goods Forwarders Assoc of America of which I was at one time in a past life. Glad that one is over. He's a very nice fellow.

I have used Fleming / Econcaribe for crates. They were very good to deal with.

Any recommendations on good companies to move to STX? We will be moving from Chicago sometime in March. Also... any "ringers" that we should avoid? We need to move household goods, furniture and one Jeep Liberty.

Thanks!
Martin and Jen

I used Managed Freight, who was basically a middle man. The companies I really used were a local moving company to pack the container, Crowley to ship the contain from the US and Fleming Transport to deliver and unpack the container in STX.

I felt that Managed Freight was an extra expense and wasn't really worth it. I did it to avoid having to manage the process myself, but found I still needed to make all the phone calls to ensure that movers would pack my belongings into the Crowley container, that the Crowley truck would show up on the right day (it didn't and the extra cost for the movers was at my expense), to arrange to have Fleming come to the house, and to arrange for Fleming to clean out the waste /empty boxes.

Managed Freight did arrange insurance for my goods in transport. Your existing homeowners' insurance may cover this.
