So it has always been our dream to live in the VI and now it seems as if the time is hitting us. We are in the VERY early stages of planning//researching this. We haven't even been down for a visit yet to see which Island is best for us.

We have 2 small kids (4 and 1) and I worry about safety and education. I gues one of the choices for which Island we choose will be based on the schools for our kids.
Does anyone have any experience or advice. We had one person tell us that the best thing would be to wait to move until the kids are older.

Is there a support system for families that have moved from stateside? Well too many questions to ask, maybe someone can lead me to some sources addressing my needs?

Hello Hillary,

Welcome to the board!

Actually you have the place to ask all the questions you have - so keep asking.

Education is a big factor to consider. Do a search of this board using the search feature for schoools and education... the public education system here is under scrutiny for losing accreditation.... there are some good private schools - in general take a look at the education section on this site and visit the schools with web sites so you can get an idea.

There is to some degree a social network between families who have moved here from stateside. Things like a mom and baby group I recall that met at Magens Bay once a week... then there are networks based on kids attending the same school or playing on a team together.

Keep doing your research, read this board, read the Settlers Handbook, ask more questions here and then you can decide or start planning for your pre-move visit.
