My husband & I are considering moving to VI to live on a boat. Can anyone give any advice on a reputable place to buy a good used boat & a marina that will rent a slip monthly or annualy? Would appreciate advice from anyone else living on a boat in VI.
Thanks,
Vickie

Hi Vickie,
Hubby and I lived aboard for 10 years, mostly in and around St. Thomas, and mostly on the hook. Are you talking about sail or power? Why do you want to live at a dock, and what are your "plans"? Are you looking for a boat you can cruise or just live aboard? Do you know about Soundings? Lots of boats for sale.

But...to answer you actual questions, St. Thomas Yacht Sales and American Yacht Harbor or Sapphire Marina on St. Thomas.

If interested in a 37 ft. Gulfstar, cruising ready sailboat, I have a friend with a great one for sale, under $50,000. PM me for more info and a contact name and number.

Hi Juanita,
Happy to find someone that has done what we're considering. We're in the getting info stage, not ready to buy a boat yet. Would like a sailboat to both cruise & live aboard. We aren't sure yet that we'd want to live at a dock. We're retiring in December & planning to come & have a look at Marinas & boats sometime this summer. Never heard of Soundings. Do they have a website?
Are you and hubby still living aboard? Can you tell me about some of your experiences. What do you do when there's the threat of a hurricane? What size boat did you live on? Are there any high crime areas to stay away from? Thanks for any information you can give me!
Vickie

Ran across this on craigslist. Thought it might be of interest to anyone considering living aboard.

Call Kim Jones 340-773-4709 at Jones Maritime in STX, She and her husband Rob lived aboard for 10+ yeas and now own and operate a livaboard marina and seem to know what is for sale on the island. We bought a boat from them in ST about 15 years ago and then ended up running into them on STX and now we keep a boat at their dock
