Hello everyone. I was just wondering what it is like living with your pets on St. John? Is quality cat food found easily there or do most people place online orders in advance to get what they want? Also what about other supplies like pine shavings and hay for animals such as rabbits. I appreciate your insight and help.

Canines Cats and Critters is our vet and they give quality care and are just all super nice.  They have a selection of quality products for cats and dogs primarily. But they also have some items for other animals.   I have dogs and order in most of their food on Amazon subscribe and save because the brand they tolerate the best isn’t found on island.  I get tears and toys and all of their medications from the vet.

@stjohnjulie Thank you so much for the reply! I appreciate the insight. Is there a farm store on island that sells stuff like hay or shavings? For those with farm animals?

I do not believe there is.   But you could inquire with the Department of Agriculture.  The Mid Way gas station has many animals including rabbits.  They may be able to give you some pointers.  Also Dana at the Carolina Corral.  She has animals of all kinds and I know she orders large quantities  of hay.  She may be able to sell you some.

@stjohnjulie Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it. I just have a couple little furry kids that would be coming along for the ride. Have a wonderful day and thank you again!

You may need to check with Agriculture Vet at VI Dept. of Agriculture regarding importation of rabbits as rules may differ from cats and dogs.

Be aware of Airline rules for traveling with pets.

Need health certificate for each animal with up to date vaccinations within 10 days of travel.

There are breed and size restrictions as well as # of pets that may travel with you.

If any pet must travel in cargo, be aware that only BOEING type aircraft can accommodate pets in baggage/cargo hold.

No part of travel can be on any AIRBUS planes.

I usually travel with my 60 lb. dog and use American Airlines. Get to check in early as the airlines also restricts # of pets per flight and you cannot make a reservation for your pets to travel but airline must be advised that you are traveling with a pet.

There's a feed shop in Bovoni on STT that may be able supply you with hay and feed. There was also one at 4 Winds Plaza and another between bottom of Cassi Hill and Coki Beach entrance in small shopping center behind gas station.

Sorry, can't remember the names.

I use Veterinary Center when on island.

Good luck.

There's a pet store next to Cost U Less that you can also check.

@Alana33 Thank you for the reply and information. I have checked and thankfully rabbits are easy to transport around because they don't need vaccines and all that. I figured I would be able to get the few supplies I do need there, but wanted to get some local insight just in case. Thank you for your help!
