good evening,
while i couldnt sleep last nite, my mind began to wonder about island life. in reference to my kids outdoor play times. in texas we have cougars, boars, bobcats, poisonous snakes, biting turtles, lizards, wasps, fire ants, all this kind of 'fun stuff'. what are some of stt's creatures that we may have concerns with? fleas, ticks, iguanas, birds are a given, lol
im in az now, so add scorpions to that list ewwww, yuck!

Pedes! Nasty little buggers!

Fire ants, stinging nettle, manchineel for starters.

Add jack spaniards. Just one of them has more punch than a dozen hornets.

I have to say that there are far fewer scary animals here than Texas. No poisonous snakes, no reptiles the size of a Honda, no predatory mammals. Even the scorpions are mildly toxic compared to those in Texas. New and strange things include a large variety of lizards and geckos, mongoose dem, goats in the middle of the road, bats, nasty poopy iguanas and your neighbor's fighting cocks and pitbulls. Oh my!:-o

And I forgot...the Texan cock-a-roachies have the island ones beat all to heck. Like, "That is not a cockroach...THIS is a cockroach."

Actually, there are reptiles the size of hondas or at least VW's...the leatherback sea turtles nesting on STX average about 600-800 lbs. But they are one of the few animals of that size that are completely harmless! They don't even have teeth! 🙂
