Wow. Have you contacted all the private schools on STT and asked for their sub lists?

Good suggestion from Blu. Some of the school offices might be closed for summer right now, but they should be opening up soon. Some local teachers also take on tutoring during off school hours to supplement their incomes -- Montessori might be able to recommend someone.

Thank you! I have been in contact with the montisorri school because my daughter is attending but they can't except him till next year for 7th grade. This is what the director suggested I put a post up. Hopefully it will be easier once I get on the island thank you again

With the move 5 days away you might not have the time or energy, BUT, I'd start sending emails ASAP. Reach out to Antillies and the Catholic schools as well. A nice community of teachers on island. You'll find someone or maybe two or three.

I preface my remarks, by saying that I have no recent contact or information about the Montessori (or any private ) school on St Thomas. I am just reacting to the comment that your 6th grader apparently does not fit in to their program at this time. What kind of private school program is so out of touch that students are rejected?

My first reaction would be to run far away from the prejudice and stupidity that, in my opinion. is evidenced by the attitude of this Montissori school.. Obviously, I do not know why your 6th grader was rejected by the Montessori elitists in St Thomas. However, it bothers me more than a little. By the way, I am a retired public educator with strong opinions.

I took the comment to mean literally that they were full, that there was no room in that grade for the child.

As I too thought and was so completely flummoxed by the rant that I went back and re-read the thread thinking I'd missed something crucial.

The school teaches 3 years at a time from what I have been told. So it would be 4th, 5th and 6th grade. Since he has never been in a montisorri school setting or that type of teaching they won't except anyone when he is in 7th grade next year they will be able to except in because it starts a whole new three year teaching program. I don't mind having him schooled i just know it would be a lot better if someone else was the teacher instead of his own parents. I thank everyone very much for all there in put and I am e mailing the schools now

Thank you, vanessa

Hello Vanessa,
I know there are homeschoolers on STT, I ran across a mention of them on google months back when I was starting the homeschool blog on St. Croix. I wish I knew where, but try googling homeschooling and STT. Another option is to contact the Department of Education in St. Thomas and ask if they have a local contact or can give you the name of a local homeschooler. Sorry that I can't be of more help.
