In defending his Villagate expenditures, Mapp notes that he spent over $13k in hotel fees in November 2015 despite only spending 15 days on STT. "What am I to do?"

Don't forget Monogram, that amount is only for a place to stay, not everything else he's sticking us for.

He should go live with Potter in his Mahogany Run condo that we're also paying for.

He's going to make Dejongh's "Mafoliegate" expenditures look like peanuts by the time he's done spending taxpayer money on his lavish lifestyle.

Galls me that he passes off his expenses as minutiae. Every little bit counts, Your Highness.

Imagine Obama buying himself a $30k Rolex with Government funds and saying "Well, our GDP is in the trillions! That's a drop in the bucket!"

Obama would not do that because he has integrity and ethics.

I guess I just don't get it. How is he still there? How is he still in office? Is this legal? Sorry I am super ignorant with how any of this works. I should get more educated about our government in general... although it'll likely make my head explode. Do the majority of people here just don't care about his spendings? Is there nothing the people can actually do? I mean do you think Mapp is just rolling in bed full of money at home literally LOLing at the Virgin Islanders? It all seems too crazy to be true but theres a ton of proof. They're not even good at covering up their bad deeds LOL.

I am wondering - to long timers - if this is just how its always been. Has there ever in time been a GOOD governor? Someone honest and for the people? Maybe the temptation is just too great and with little to no accountability, even the good fall? Interested in ling term residents opinions on Mapp.

The governor can do anything that he wants to do. And since the AG is appointed, he does what he is told by the governor and will not prosecute him.

So sorry - ignorant again but does the governor have to answer to anyone? The president? Don't laugh lol!! I know nothing about how this works. Also why did he get voted in? The people were duped? Is there anything the people can do?

In the revised organic act (2014), there is a provision for a recall of any elected USVI official, including the governor. Two thirds of the votes must be in favor of the recall.

USVI Governor does not answer to the U.S. President. However, The U.S. congress can do whatever it wants with USVI, as it's an unincorporated territory. For example, it can be sold back to Denmark. Or, the congress may pass a law by which USVI shall be governed by a governor appointed by the President.

Plus the VI Legislature isn't about to call him out on it since they each shall receive a $150,000 ea/$1.5Million total to distribute at their discretion, to their pet "charities." The majority of people liken it to a "slush fund."

The VI Legislature doesn't wish to release its spending either and has also been stonewalling the Daily News for their requests for information. It will be interesting to see (if ever released Mapp's expenditures for his first year in office. So much for the Freedom of Information Act.

The AG would normally be the one to order an investigation into improprieties in spending, I believe. However, he was appointed by Mapp after running 3-4 previously appointed AGs.

If enough people actually are sick of his crap, they can petition a recall to the Legislature after the first year in office which is now up.
It takes 50% plus one votes to successfully achieve this.

There's also "quo warrento:"

Quo warrento does not apply. They'll never get the 50%. They will get Millin-Young for sure!

Surprising that the Democrats (except for Militant-Young) haven't been hitting him harder. They can remove/hamper him significantly if they really want to.

They aren't really Democrats. They're opportunists.
