I'm being transfered to STT in April. I was considering buying a live-aboard instead of paying rent for 2 years. Any old salts with a word of advice? Anyone know where i can find rates for slip fees or insurance costs for a small sailing yacht?

Pat,
Compass Point Marina is probably the most affordable but marinas are hot. Most liveaboards do the mooring thing. Mooring permits are not hard to obtain and it's cooler and less buggy than at the dock. Of course, you do have the elecricity, water and cable at the dock ...,
Insurance rates - call Liz Mahoney at Tunick Insurance 340-776-7000 ext. 234.

Thanks Pamela,
I was planning to use a live aboard instead of an apartment. I'll be working full time and don't know if mooring would be practical for comuting?
I'll call Liz in the morning. Thanks again,
Pat

Sure, you just dinghy into wherever you have your car parked. You can rent a parking space at most of the marinas.
