hello all ! I've been considering life in the islands for some time and am planning a two week recon to st Thomas march-ish . vacationed in the islands throughout the years with the wife and kids- always hated leaving. Now the kids are almost in college and the wife is happily and mutually ex. Perfect time for a reboot, I think. I have 20 yrs experience in the building trades- mostly cabinet/furniture making- as well as restoration/remodel. Grew up for on a 32 ft grand banks- pretty knowledgeable on things boat (life long salt water hound). I'm wondering about employment opportunities. Other posts suggest a deep tool bag and a good attitude go a long way. Don't mind hard work or crazy hours but would like to know if 1k a week is possible- even if it means banging on my guitar a few nights a week to make it happen. ( been doing it forever). also- considering live aboard. The muni slip fees seem reasonable- are there many working folks doing live aboard? (considering a 34ish sailboat ) I'm hoping to start a bit of a dialogue as my thoughts on this progress---maybe even strike up a friendship or two. Any thoughts or comments are greatly appreciated. (and possibly rewarded with a frosty adult beverage! )

please do a pre move visit ( PMV ) to make sure it really will suit your needs. stt is very crowded, stx not so much. vacationing here and living here are 2 very different things. most everything costs more down here in the islands. groceries, gas, electricity. service is far from reliable on utilities. we found out WAPA had changed our mailing address without us giving them any new address, we did not get bills for two months because of them changing it.
beautiful beaches and weather most of the time are wonderful.

What's a muni slip fee? Is that municiple? We don't have a municiple dock, to my knowledge, and I always thought the dock fees were high, at least on St. Thomas. Maybe less on ST. Croix.
