Hollis:

There are many massage therapists on all islands, both working privately and in spas at the resorts but if you're trying to find any sort of a job from off island you'll have next to no success. Consider making a PMV to seriously investigate the possibilities. Cheers and good luck.

Hi, I know you posted a long time ago asking about massage therapy jobs on the Islands.. I was just wondering if you were able to find something. I'm looking to move there with my boyfriend and I'm a massage therapist. Just wondering how hard it is to find a job and if you know what kind of licence they require.
Thanks,
K

Katie and Hollis,

I am a massage therapist and just moved to STT. I can't answer your questions regarding salaries in the spa setting as I am an independent contractor and rent my own space, however, fees range from about $70/hr. to $125/hr. in the private sector. As far as licensing is concerned, you need to get a business license. Look up VI Dept of Licensing and Consumer Affairs to follow the procedures and be PATIENT as it takes awhile to get that license. As each state in the US is different in its licensing requirements, if you have taken the National Exam or belong to any trade associations like AMTA or ABMP, that will help, but is not really required. I agree with STT Resident in making sure you come for a PMV and research the spas that you may want to work in. I noticed that Trade responded to the other "massage" post and gave you the link to Wyndham's spa, Journeys. That would be a good place to start. Also, Marriot Frenchman's Reef, the Ritz Carlton...just some places to go online and look. It is hard to get alot accomplished until you are actually here, although, I tried to make alot of phone connections from my internet research so that when I did arrive, I had contacted some people and it made my meet and greet with them much easier...
