Part of the lava dome just collapsed, big eruption on the island. Thankfully the wind isn't blowing in our direction.

I dunno. I was working outside all day yesterday with a view to STTand the haze that built up in the afternoon was significant. I turned to my co-worker and said I wonder if Montserrat erupted. It was pretty hazey today, too.

For Sure K,

It came like a storm and hazed the sky. I thought dust but that comes kinda casual, this hit during the afternoon. Ash.

My asthma is acting up and it hasn't done that in YEARS. Oh well, good thing I always keep my inhaler prescription filled, "just in case"!

Last summer I began using an inhaler for the first time, because of the Saharan dust, and now the ash is annoying me. 🙁

People in Hawaii call it "Vog" and I have adopted the term for us, since it's such a fact of life for us here.

According to the USGS and the MVO, on a normal day the volcano puts out between 150 and 700 tons of sulfur dioxide EACH DAY. When the wind is the least bit south, we get a dose of that.

As for the health considerations, you might check into Hawaii and Montserrat to see if they have chronic problems. I think it stinks more than it's dangerous.
