It seems that a motorcycle might be a good way to get around on the islands, with nothing very far away and rain not frequent or long-lasting. I can't seem to find any information about this, however, and was wondering if motorcycles were common there. Would a regular street bike be adequate, or would the hills and unpaved roads on any of the usvi require more of an off-road, dirt bike kind of machine? Also, are there any dealers on any of the islands?

Which island are you referring to? St.Thomas is hilly and twisty with a lot of switchbacks. Most roads are paved. I have seen a few bikes down there and envy the riders as I too ride here back in the US. I'd say if you were over 150 lbs, go for at least 750cc or a bike with lots of torque. Don't worry about top speed as there is no place to go fast. Also, it does get slippery when it rains.

St.John on the other hand has paved roads and unpaved roads that lead to fantastic beaches so a dual sport would be great. Something like a Kawasaki KLR would work fine.

As for dealers, you could check the yellow pages as www.usviyellowpages.org. Hope this helps.

Most of St. Croix is suitable for a regular street bike. There are some hills so a bigger engine bike would be best.
