Hi - thinking of moving from Las Vegas, NV, to St Thomas. Was a bartender in a major casino for 15 years and have been an insurance broker for 4 years now. What are the chances of getting a job in St Thomas for me?

Kris,

If the insurance work on St. Thomas doesn't pan out, there is a casino on St. Croix -- The Divi Carina Bay [ www.CarinaBay.com ] -- that may be interested in your extensive casino experience. We've seen plans drawn up to build a second casino here on the west end of the island, but that's not something that I expect to see for a long while, if ever.

Wish you good luck with this -- Las Vegas is one of my favorite places (in many way because it is so crip-friendly) and remains one of the few on the mainland that I'd consider visiting since moving down here. 🙂

Hello Kris and HipCrip,

Kris, bartending jobs as I understand are not hard to get. Do we have insurance on this island? 😉 Just kidding. I don't know of any leads in that area, but you could get by with bartending until you find something. Good luck and try to make it down for a PMV (pre-move visit). By the way, do you know how to make a june bug drink? It taste like green sherbet and is served in a martini glass. Had one two years ago and can't find anyone who knows what is in it. I am asking everyone.

Hipcrip, you and I could go to Vegas. I have never been. I could practice my blackjack again... 😉 Actually, I hate to gamble. I worked in a casino in Kansas City and really disliked it. I would love to go to Vegas and see the shows. I want to see Cirque de Sole (spelling is wrong I am sure), the Blue Man Group, lions and white tigers, etc... My husband has been twice with other people and I have always wanted to go.

Anyway, Kris I hope you get more info. I have only lived here two weeks, but feel like I meant to be here all my life.

Teresa

Teresa,

You have a date! While I do enjoy gambling, Kelly and I adore Cirque du Soleil. We've seen two of thier Vegas shows already (Mystere, at the Treasure Island, and O at the Bellagio), but they've just opened a new one at New York New York called Zoomanity that is supposed to be slightly different and far more adult-themed.

I've also read that they are negotiating with the MGM Grand about producing another permanent show over there, so there might even be two more for us to see by the time we get there. Let's see who else sounds interested in this -- I have always wanted to take a trip to Vegas with a whole bunch of fun folks!

BTW, Kelly and I got married at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Vegas five years ago this Thanksgiving/ 🙂

Hello Kris,

As mentioned bartending jobs during season; you should be able to land one.
For insurance jobs you can start looking in the yellow pages www.viphonebook.com and looking up insurance companies and contacting them, sending your resume and trying to make connections for possiable job openings. A few of them have web sites like:
