I recently graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in Business and am working for an insurance company in Portland, OR. What kind of jobs are available in the VI and would I be able to make enough money to support myself when first making the move.. Any suggestions, info., ect. would be extremely appreciated!
Thanks..

Purchase the book "A Settler's Handbook for the U.S. Virgin Islands". It is worth every penny. My wife and I are planning our move in August. It is very helpful. It has been updated recently so the information is current. Good Luck.

Hello Mike,

Ric is right the Settlers Handbook is a great place to start with planning your move it provides lots of informaiton about the islands. You can pick one up at Vitraders.com
http://www.vitraders.com , it is in the book section, option Guide Books. Or use the top naviation banner ad which is for that book, on this page.

How prevelant is the usage of Spanish in the islands? Is there opportunities for bi-lingual persons?

There's quite a bit of Apanish spoken on St Croix as there is a large Puerto Rican population.

Additionally there are several businesses in the USVI that 'report' back to the regional offices in Puerto Rico (Spanish Speaking US Island); ie. Sprint Cellular, CIngular Wireless, K-mart... Also Ric is correct there is a large spanish speaking population in St. Croix and to a lesser amount on St. Thomas. The ability to speak Spanish in retail is great and appreciated by employers, as you are able to reach another audience.
