Moving furniture is a test of marriage

Hello everyone,

I'm taking a break from my frantic packing to check in on this board and my email. Our car is getting dropped off at the shipping port in New Jersey tomorrow AM (thanks, Lee) and my house is almost totally empty. My Dad once told me that putting up the Christmas tree each year is a test of marriage but I think moving furniture with your significant other takes the cake! Maneuvering stuff down stairs, around corners, onto trucks---ugh---the joys of moving. All our furniture is in storage at my Mom's house and we are almost ready to move to her place until we fly out on August 3rd (my birthday!).

OK-Back to work 🙂

Hi Suzanne,

LOL!!! I am so looking forward to moving with my husband...;-) Hopefully my brother and my dad and a few others will help. Last time I moved my couch, I almost broke my thumb (on the stair railing as we were trying to 'bend' the couch around the corner). I prefer to move small boxes and since I packed them I know which ones are light! We move in the middle of August to STT. Hope to see you at the get together in August!

I hope you have sunny skies on your birthday. Looking down at the islands is just breathtaking from the air. Happy Birthday early!

Happy upcoming birthday, Suzanne. You were born on the same day as my mom. I wish you happy, happy travels on your special day!

LOL...I know what you mean. THe move BACK is REALLY a test of marriage. When my husband and I moved back stateside for me to go to graduate school (and we didn't even ship any furniture back as we still have our house there and will return next year for good), we were ready to wring each other's necks. But, we are both alive and well, and look VERY forward to returning!

Good luck with the move!

T- This 3000 mile move will be a breeze compared to the 10 mile move last time in 10 inches of rain. The real test will be the 28 hour total drive time to Florida with the 3 rug rats! LY!

Suzanne - Have a great b-day and trip. Leo's rule!

Any move is a test of marriage. We're finishing the final packing this week and it has been a challenge. Our biggest problem was that we didn't know where we were actually going to move until the past few days. All we knew was that our house is sold and we need to be out next Tuesday. Talk about stressful.

We're surviving on very little sleep without any major injuries (I am convinced my little toe is broke from when my husband stepped on it with his clodhopper shoes and I was barefoot). We hope to close on a house in Missouri and a condo in STX next month. Not sure why we are doing this all at once but I'm sure it will work out.

Good luck with the furniture moving.
