A small group of us from the US wish to move our 34 ft. sailboat from the Bahamas to STT. Any suggestions on the regulations and possibility of having our own mooring ball installed and what locations are available. Thanks, Bill

Lizard, 2 words, weather window, Bill you might have better luck with TTOL. You can buy seabed permits, but very difficult to obtain. PM me for more info, we have researched this topic and the mooring ball is doable. Dock space is very pricey about $10-$12 a foot plus water and elelctric. Evan

Department of Planning and Natural Resources doles out the mooring permits. I am not sure if there is a moratorium, but there are very limited places they will allow. Check with them to get the rules and regs. Are you sailing down or shipping the boat? I know Tania Abdi (sp?) sailed around the world in a 26 ft boat, but I'd want to be on something a bit more roomy! 😉

Bahamas to the VI is considerably easier and very different than around the world.
Mooring permits are DPNR - register the boat and submit a mooring application. Very unlikely if you are looking for a STJ space, STT possible but limited, --- STX [ IDK?]
Arrive , anchor and look around for where you may want to keep the boat - Liveaboard? Unattended?? The mooring equipment is your own property and your responsibility.

You will likely need to pay for a anchor permit a couple months, take a picture of the boat in it`s spot and submit it to Dee People Not Right, erm, DPNR.
Many of the achorages are closed, the boaties know which ones.
They are located at the airport in STT.
If your staying in STT, you`ll need to decide if you want to be a southsider, or a eastender.
