Hello -

3 friends and I have decided to leave everything in the states (good jobs in boston, apartment, most belongings,etc...) and live on St.Croix. This decision came quick after a recent vacation there but this is something I have wanted to do since I was 14.

We are 25 now with College Degrees but are sick of the stressful rat race in the states. This website has been very informative and I have learned a lot. But, I am sure that there is some advice to be offered.

I will likely be able to bring about $3,000 with me to start. We have an aquaintance that lived there for 12 years that my buddy works with in FLA and he is pretty confident that he can help us get starter jobs to pay the bills, which is really all I am concerned about at first. It seems it may not be too hard to get a 3 or 4 bedroom apartment and from what I have read, they are less expensive than in Boston.

Just looking for some words of wisdom to make sure that this goes as smoothly as possible.

Thanks!

pat-

feel free to contact me with any questions. i moved here right out of college 4 years ago. haven't regretted it yet... and never plan to! apartments are way cheaper then boston, but there are some things that are more expensive. it's all in the way you live your life. some people come and live forever, while others come and turn around a month later. it's all up to you. let me know what exactly i can help you with and i'll try my best.

Thanks a lot for responding. I am really looking forward to this but want to do it right. Do you think $3000 will be enough? I can get by on nothing...Also any advice as to how to get a decent price on a place? I just want to be able to start off with an OK place and an OK job - and than go from there once I am settled.

I can put my degree to work anytime, and am willing to do just about any work to get my feet wet...I fell like just being there will even it out...

Hello Pat,

You said you have 2 other buddies coming to... will they have some savings put aside also? If you each have $3000 that will be good, but if its all on you and your saving you are going to spend much of it right away (1st month, last month & security deposit on a multiple bedroom house and setting up utilities could eat up $3000 very easily).

What is your degree and your friends' degrees in?
