the place i am staying is on the top of a hill/mountain and only about a 2 minute drive to the hospital. It is on an estate which is gated and very safe. There are two rentals available: a pool house (studio) and a 1 bed, 1 bath house. The landlords do not like renting to people with children and will not allow smoking in or around the premises. I am going to be taking some pictures for them soon and posting them. They do not advertise yet but we love the place. I believe the 1 bed, 1 bath house is $1500/month including electricity and water. That is slightly higher than other rentals but for the security we think it is worth it. send me a pm if interested

Check out the classified forum on the forum list. There are a few property managers that post their openings there. Some fairly decent deals.

Let me know if I can help.

everyone i have met has had either their home or car broken into so i think it is very important. unless you are not keeping any valuables at your house. remember also that electricity is high here and in the summer you will probably need to use the AC unless you are at a place that is really breezy. some of the rental rates are correlated as such: no breeze = low rent = high electric bill. If on the other hand you get a place with high rent and no breeze you will be upset 🙂 some rentals will charge a fee for water because it has to be bought during the dry season and water is very high here. make sure you consider the total costs before coming. is your wife a traveling nurse? if so, which company did she go with? i know that true staff puts nurses up in the apartments next to the hospital. They are not very nice (i have heard) and they charge for water and electric. a one bedroom is 1100/month i think.

I would contact Alexandra, a poster on this board. She is a Realator and also rents out some condos for owners.
I'm suprised that the hospital or service didn't get you housing. There are always three of four condos here at STC that are rented to travlers, thru the service. They come with cars as well.

Location of your home is more important that gates and locks. We've lived here more than 6 years, out in the country, and have never had either our home or our car robbed. Common sense is important. You can find nice places for less that $1,500.

Lived here 10 yrs. Never had anything stolen from my house or car. Not that it doesn't happen. Just been lucky and careful.
I know people that pay anywhere from $650 up to several thousand $ for a nice place. Plan to spend $1200 or so for something decent. The less expensive deals are somewhat rare.

treemandan,
I have lived on the islands (STT and STX) for 15 years, and I have never been the victim of a crime. I own a small apartment complex on STX, and we have never had a break-in, or anything close to it. We are not gated, but we are on a small, private dead-end road, in a nice neighborhood.

We rent fully furnished apartments ranging from very small efficiency to very spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bath. Our one bedrooms are $850-$1300, depending on which one, and your length of stay. I don't have a one bedroom open for January.

For January (approximately Jan. 10), I have a two bedroom, two bath at $1450 per month, plus electric and water. Dish Satellite TV and wireless Internet are free. How long is your assignment? Our rates can vary according to length of rental.

Late January, I have a small efficiency, but it is really best suited for one person. The two bedroom has a bit of ocean view from the large covered gallery and the bedroom windows, lots of windows and sliding glass doors. I doubt you would need to use the A/C until much later in the year, if even then. There are a/c units in both bedrooms, if you do. The most recent electric bill, in that unit, was $142, and that is with 3 adults living there. We charge .05 per gallon for water.

Almost forgot....we are about 2.5 miles from the hospital, a very easy drive. You would definitely need a car. If you want to check our our website: http://www.virginislandsrentals.com, please do so, and if interested give me a PM here or email casita37@hotmail.com Our phone number is 340-718-6744, if you prefer.

Good luck to you. Let me know if I can help.

I don't have an active page on the website for either the studios or one bedroom because I don't have any available right now. There are active pages for the Efficiency 2B and 2 Bdrm 3A. Those are the ones coming up in January. If you would still like to see pictures of the studio and 1 bedrm, PM me you email address, and I will be glad to send them.

Thanks so much.
