I am looking forward to moving to St John for an exciting change. I am wondering if anyone has any information on long-term rentals. I have been searching and I am not having much luck. I am a recent college graduate who is looking to work in a restaurant/bar. I am looking for a one bedroom place or possibly a room in a house with other people. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! ~Amie

Hello Amie. Landlords do not usually advertise their rentals in newspapers or on the internet bulletin boards. You will find some here on the classifieds part of this board and sometimes on the Caribbean Craigslist. Beyond that, I would advise getting temporary housing at an inn here so you can apartment shop once you arrive. This is what I did. I paid $800.00 for a month until I settled on something I found by word of mouth. Most inn owners will negotiate at off season if you need to stay a few weeks. There is a business in Cruz Bay called Connections, that is where all the apartments for rent are posted on a cork bulletin board. Now is off season, there is an abundance of property for rent posted at Connections. Expect most landlords to want first, last, and security deposit up front. You didn't say when you would be coming. There may be an abundance of rentals now, but not an abundance of job openings because it is off season. But you never know. You may walk right into a job your first week. Best advice is come debt free and with $7000-$10000 cash to live on your own. The catch is you have to be here to find those places to live. Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Thank you for giving me some information. I am coming in early October and was hoping to have a few places lined up to look at when I got there. Thank you for the idea about the inns...any in particular that would be good to contact? If anyone knows of any rentals, people looking for house/pet sitters, etc. please let me know. Thanks again!
