Moving to St. Thomas and need advice

Hello again (:
Thank you for all your suggestions and advice it is greatly appreciated! I have never been to the USVI ( I have been to Belize and Jamaica) so input from locals is valuable to me. We would not be moving there to find paradise....I'm not sure if that exists anywhere. My husband has an opportunity to maintain a large solar system being installed this year on St. Thomas and of course we would hope to contribute to the community in as many positive ways as possible.
The reason I asked about health food stores is our daughter is lactose intolerant, but does really well on goat milk and the only place we can purchase goat dairy products here is in health food stores. We also try to eat organic or local foods when possible. So it would be nice to be somewhat close to a health food store. I would love to be with in walking distance but realize that's probably not an option.

There are a couple of health food stores and many products in grocery stores for those with lactose intolorance.
I do not know about "goat milk" products but you can check out the heatlh food stores or order online.
Possibly hook up with a farmer to get goat's milk.

Walking distance will not be an option.

Lou has some good points. Fact is most people don't make it six months to a year before they get sick of island life and leave. Prepare yourself, living on the islands is not a vacation.

There are more soy and almond dairy products in the grocery stores than cow's milk, I think. Plaza Extra has many of the same or similar products as the health food stores.

Cholla: I suspect you will be able to find goat milk. If nothing else, there are lots of goat herders (?)- ranchers (?). Maybe you could talk to some of them. NoOne is correct, lots of folks only stay 6 months. That is why I said not to burn your bridges, and if it doesn't work out, it is okay.

I think you will come down to the Islands and love it and stay 20 years. If not, it will quite the adventure. St. Thomas is very mountainous so walking isn't really an option unless you live in certain areas like TuTu for instance or over on the Eastend or in town areas. I used to live at Blue Beards Castle back in the early 70's back when it was a hotel and I would walk from Blue Beards to Sub Base on a daily basis. But I was a lot younger then and in mucho better health.

Thanks again everyone I think my questions have been answered(at least for now!). I appreciate the concern about things not working out and honestly it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up moving back to the mainland, but I also don't want to look back on my life and wonder..... what if? What if it is my home? I haven't found the place I want to stay forever yet, and maybe I never will but a little(or big) adventure is what life is all about. Hope your all having an amazing warm day......it was negative 11 this morning here in Colorado! Kind regards - Cholla
