I'll be working at Charlotte Amalie High School, so I would like to be within 20 minutes from the school.

North side probably your best bet.
Anywhere between Wintberg - East Caret Bay.
Look on Craig's List but be aware of scammers.

Don't rent sight unseen.
You'll need a car. Bring one.
Bring lots of $$$$$.
Most places require 1st, last plus deposit.
Few come completely and fully furnished so you'll need to buy stuff like cleaning supplies, towels, linens, dishware, groceries, etc.

20 minutes walking or driving? Your best bet would be to check the online edition of the Virgin Islands Daily News or craigslist, though I seldom see apts in town listed. You should consider a temporary place to stay until you find someplace permanent.

I'm coming down for a few days at the end of June to find and finalize housing. I plan on buying a car once I make the move, so 20 minutes driving. I've been looking on craigslist daily, so it sounds like that's the best bet. How is Charlotte Amalie as a place to live? Walking to work would be ideal, but not necessary.

Thanks for the feedback.

You might find parking in town, day or night, difficult.

Check the local papers like the Daily News and Island Trader when you get here as they'll have rentals, cars, items for sale. Island Trader comes out weekly on Thursdays and is free. Get an island map from a car rental agency when you arrive at airport. You're going to need a rental car anyway to get around and check potential living arrangements as north and south sides of islands have no bus nor safari taxis service.

You can check Island Trader online. Check Google maps for neighborhoods (called Estates) so you can see where they are. There was an apt in Daily News Apr 27 for 2 bedroom on Bkackbeard's Hill that said parking available. 863.266.1006. Estate Thomas with private parking. 340.201.5296.
