My friend and I are wanting to move to St. Thomas for at least 1 year. We are fresh out of college and excited. I'm hoping someone can give us hints on how to make the best of this opportunity. We need jobs, and an apartment. We're from central Arkansas and don't have a lot of money. She is a pharmacy tech, and I am a secretary... if you have any information at all, please let me know!

Hello Ashley,

Your friend might have more luck doing groundwork then you will. She should contact the larger pharmacies and see about faxing her resume and making contacts. You should read this board, the sections on moving, books... do research so you are well prepared. Save money for the ticket, first couple months of rent/food/getting around - you can spend the first couple weeks securing work - when you get on island you will need to go to offices and bring your resume. Look in the daily news classified section to see if any offices are hiring receptionist/secretaries/assistants ect. It will be quite difficult for you to secure a position not being on island. You will need to look into a short term place to stay for the first week or so while you find an apartment that is suitable for the two of you and your budgets. Most apartments want first, last and security to make sure you save up so you can pay for these deposits/rent.

Just in case you hear of something... I have experience in visitor centers, car washes, oil & lubes, university assisting, nursing home receptionist, graduate assistant, child care (special needs such as autism, as well), and food service. Like I said, we won't be leaving until August, but anything could help! Thanks again for taking your time.

Thank you Islander and East Ender! This is the friend of Ashley's, who is in search of a pharmacy tech position. I appreciate the advice.
