I am right there with you. My husband is there now working and living in a hotel. I will be moving with the kids in August. My advice is read everything you can in this website. Have your husband quiz his new employer about getting started and see what they will do to help you relocate. I haven't found a single person not willing to answer a question or help us out - from taxi drivers (when we visited St. Thomas) to the salespeople in the stores to the hotel to strangers on a website. 😉 Thanks to all of you by the way! Not that I am an expert, but here is what we are doing. We contacted a shipping company on the island to work backwards - they should work out all the customs details and shipping. We are having a real estate agency help us find a rental. We are not buying unless we like it and plan on staying (just to be safe). I am staying behind three months until my husband has medical insurance (my job has provides us the insurance in the meantime). I can only hope we are doing things right, but we took this on as an adventure and are trying to go in with a sense of reality and not thinking that we are moving to paradise. Although we let ourselves have those moments of "Wow, we are moving to tropical island" which is many people's dream. Good luck and please share any new found info about relocating. I appreciate it.

Good advice so far--thank you.
Theresa- can I ask you the name of the real estate agency you are using? -- That would be a big help.

Arlene-
Sorry to mislead you. My husband told me we were using a real estate agent, however it turned out to be more of a property manager that only shows a few condos. We are looking at papers, asking people everywhere, and getting most of our leads from people that my husband is working with. The condos or rentals that I was talking about can be found at www.hangyourhammock.com . Good luck! Maybe we will run into you after we get settled. I plan on continuing to use this board. I am sure it will take me a while to get to know the island.

Hi Arlene--
You could try Warren Stryker for real estate @ 776-2697. He seems like a good guy.
