Can anybody help me with options for moving furniture to the island? I am temporarily thinking about driving to Miami Fl, and having my furniture shipped from their ports.

Thanks,
Noel

I don't know how much this will help but check virginislandsdailynews.com
Most of the listings are for STT, but they do throw in the occasional STX. I look everyday!! Once you get to the main page, click the "general" category and it takes you to a page of classifieds.
Good Luck to you!!
My husband and I will be arriving August 30th on STJ. Thanks to everyone on this message board for lots of great advice!!

Noel,

You might want to consider checking into a hotel with a kitchen when you arrive and then start your search for an apartment/condo after you're here. That way, you're not relying on the descriptions of others about the unit or the area, and you can get a feel for what the different parts of the island/neighborhoods are like.

We just relocated, and found that the hours and hours of looking at housing options online/by phone/through email were mostly wasted because we had so little first hand experience with the character of the various estates on STX. It turned out that many options that looked and sounded fantastic from afar ended up being in a parts of the island that we felt were both unsafe or highly undesirable once we were actually there (primarily due to flooding, reported crime, proximity and number of drinking establishments in the area, distance from shopping, and such).

We spent a week staying in a suite with a full kitchen at Sand Castle on the Beach
(just south of F'sted and right on the water) and bought and cooked our own food to keep costs down.while we drove around looking at our options. It was money and time well spent. Since you're coming in August, off-season rates will apply wherever you end up (we paid $106/night off season at Sand Castle, including the 8% tax). BTW, we deliberately didn't stay in/near C'sted when we arrived so we would have to drive across the island to take care of most of our business -- we figured it was the best way for us to make sure we saw as much of the island as possible every day we were here.

Please let us know how everything works out. Good luck with the move, and welcome!

HC
