hi!

i am anticipating coming to STJ next may. a good friend of mine who moved there last year advised that i come down in april to find an apt. she said to not bother lining up leads, that i should just come down when i'm ready to move. she said she took this approach and found a place on STJ in one day.

so my question is this: should i go down to STJ in april w/o any leads and hope i find a place, as my friend suggested? she said i'd have no problem finding an apt. or is it better to establish some contacts beforehand and go down to follow up on them?

i will turn this over to you all...

I would ask your friend if you can stay with her until you find an apartment. That'll get her on the ball to help you find a place that much quicker! haha! Seriously, though, there should be a lot of availability in May due to the transients relocating because season is over. If you have a place, like your friend's apartment, or a hotel for a week or two, you should be able to get all set up no problem.

Anyone else have any input for Celeste?

Hello,

I agree that if your friend will let you stay there for a few days-weeks while you find a place this would be great. I have heard new St. John residents say they found a place easy and also heard some say it was difficult because although there were places available they were all in the higher price range. You might still consider putting up a apt. wanted notice in Connections a few days before you move so you have a jump start on the apt. search; see if you could use your friends local number to leave messages for you.
