Hi!

I have worked in the states as a small animal veterinarian for a number of years. At this point in my life, I am considering a change of venue and pace of life. I was wondering what is the need for someone with my expertise in a place like St. John, or nearby islands. I've visited a few times and have fallen in love.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Maria,

What you might do to get an idea of the number of vet offices on the islands is to go to the yellow pages http://www.usviyellowpages.org and look ups vets... if you are concerned about taking the leap and opening your own place, perhaps see if any of the exisit placs have openings for someone like you, work there for a while, while feeling out the market and then consdier opening your own place. Or if after researching the possibilites maybe you would want to just open your own place from the get go. Not sure how many vet offices St. John has. Let see if someone else hopefully a pet owner on St. John can fill you in on this. 🙂

Onika - did you have trouble finding a good vet on St. Thomas when you moved??

Hello. Not sure about STJ.
On STT, Sydney (the dog) and I are patrons of Dr. Williamson. I believe he is a solo practioner. Haven't heard that he might be looking. But Imperial Canines has many vets...maybe that would like one more? Their # is 774-7034.
Alas, I haven't heard anything specific about any vet positions. For future reference though, check the VI Daily News classifieds online.
Good luck.

Thanks Onika.

Maria I would still suggest you pull up the list of vets and call and see if you can gather any information that way, but about openings and to see how many there are so you can gauge whether you might want to open your own office.
