Hmm, that article says "excise tax " ... "which applies directly to businesses which import these products. Customers will ultimately pay the tax as distributors pass the cost to retailers who pass it on to customers." So this is not a sales tax that the retailers will add on to the in store receipt as a separate line item. Wonder if this means our Cruzan and Capt'n Morgan rum will not be taxed since it's not imported?

Yea what about Cruzan.... I guess it's technically imported since it's bottled in the states? That's CRAZY to tax a run we make here. Idk I'm still fuming over the plastic bag ban- joke.

Don't be so sure about Cruzan and Captain Morgan. The rum is produced and aged for years here.
If where it's bottled is a factor, I would think a small bottling operation would spring up real quick somewhere on island.

Imagine that,
A local government instituted policy that actually created jobs?
And boosted local rum production?

Map could sell the bulletproof Suburbans and freely cruise around in a classic old convertable he'd be so loved 😀

Government cannot create jobs, what ever jobs it does create is at the expense of the citizens; that's just wealth redistribution.

Government can encourage jobs by getting out of the way, taxing less is a great start, so is firing 2/3 the administrative staff of all divisions. .
