how are the nights on the island? the stars and moon and such. is it absolutely beautiful? i live right outside of memphis, tn. and we don't really get a good look at the stars. i'm a bit of a star gazer. it settles me. anyways, just wondering what it was like there, being small and in the middle of the ocean.

As anywhere, the further you get from the main downtown area and all the ambient/man-made light the more stars you will see. Laying in a hammock on a sailboat at midnight out at Buck Island is an amazing experience. You never dreamed there were so many stars. I keep waiting for the street light near my house to burn out so I can have the same experience from my own back yard.

Even with the light that does interfere with the night skies, there are more stars showing here than any well populated areas of the US mainland. If you are into photos of stars at night, wait for those times when the WAPA power plant goes down for a while blacking out the island and you will get some fabulous shots.

Star gazing is an awesome experience here. As already mentioned, it depends on where you are in terms of nearness to town lights, but in the more remote parts of STT I've seen more stars more clearly than anywhere else I've ever been.

Best,
