On the lookout for stolen dog

Please be on the lookout for a dog that has been stolen from the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center. Someone broke into the shelter facility a couple of nights ago and stole this young dog from its kennel. The dog had already been adopted and was scheduled for surgery. The person stealing this dog was focused and knew exactly where to go to get what he/she wanted. Tory is very recognizable though and if we all keep our eyes open... we may be able to get Tory back and into his proper new home... and get the ones responsible arrested for their criminal acts.!

Take a look at the pic. Tory has cropped ears, is medium sized, has a beautiful brindle coat and a distinguishable markings.

.... Thanks!

i heard this is the 3rd pitbull stolen from the shelter. so terribly awful. I hope we can find her!

in other news...the dogs that were missing from Sugar Mill are back at home - their neighbor told me she saw them in their yard this morning.

I am soooooo glad to hear the missing dogs are home and safe. That whole situation was breaking my heart. I kept trying to put myself in the place of the owners. I mean, can you even imagine....you are off island...maybe at a kid's wedding, a parent's funeral, a long awaited doctor's appointment, something that can't simply be "skipped", and you get the call that your dogs are missing. What do you do? My first inclination would be to come home, but you think by the time you get here, they will be found, or how do you tell your daughter you are missing her wedding because you have to go find your dogs? You can't. It's a lose, lose situation all the way around.

I don't know the owners or how it was handled, but my heart really goes out to all involved.

Almost close story...before my mother passed away, I was in North Carolina for about 3 months. My husband was coming up for the funeral, and the morning before his flight, our dog went missing. He found her just barely in time to make the plane, but jokingly (kinda) keeps saying if he hadn't found her, he wasn't getting off the plane in NC. He would just keep going!

Back to this post, though...the fact that it's Pitbulls really turns my stomach. I can only imagine one reason someone is stealing Pits.

i'm not sure about any gps tracking that can be used here. we can't even get sirius radio, lol. the animal shelter does implant those microchips into dogs so that when they are scanned a number comes up, but you have to choose to have that done and when my dog was scanned, they said he didn't have one...i remember paying the money for it, lol. apparantly, it can be absorbed sometimes or someone can put it in a different place than usual and it won't get picked up. i hope that Tory is found - she looks adorable! and it's so sad that once this animal was actually adopted, someone actually picked her and fell in love with her, she was taken.

I can only imagine one reason someone is stealing Pits.

I can imagine another -- to train as a "guard dog" (attack dog) to protect someone's drug trade; the shelter won't adopt out to the dealers -- but you're right, dogfighting is the most likely. I hope they find her! 🙁
