i think 3 months here and the rest in the states is the perfect mix.

Not only is it the perfect mix, it also insulates the person a bit. With no offense to Terry, or any other part-time residents, a lot of things can be charming for a while, but when it's in your face everyday for years, the red starts to fade off the candy.

It has been mentioned that if you don't like it here, you don't have to stay. Well, life isn't always that black and white. People have strings and baggage and responsibilities. I know I do. Terry, You would like to live here year 'round. Why don't you, then?? See what I mean? You have other ties that make it difficult for you to just up and move.

This brings up why we always tell people to rent for a while first. Don't get yourself tied to the island until you have lived here long enough to know for sure that it's for you. How long? Depends on the individual, but I would give it a couple of years, at least.

Just wondering if there is anyplace else with a message board like this that basically discourages people from making a commitment too soon, weighing the pros and cons, with open dialogue why one should, or should not, move here. I guess we really are special.(tu)

There is, kinda . . . take a look at this website: http://www.city-data.com/forum/

We have a lot of people being relocated to Ft. Knox right now under the latest BRAC program and there is a good bit of discussion as to whether to come or not. However, the discussion is nothing like we have on this board, for sure.
