Hi,

We are from Europe and setting up a business in STT.
We need to open a business account in the USVI, but we wont be there until the end of august and we really need that bank account before that time.
What bank would you suggust for a business account and more import, wich bank will be able to open an account for us by phone/fax or email. Would this be possible?
Any info is welcome!
Thanks
Inge

I use Banco Popular for a personal account. You might try them. But don't be surprised if you have problems setting up from off island.

With homeland security and i.d. theft, etc., etc., we practically had to tell Bank of St. Croix what size underwear we wore. Even now if I go to cash a check on MY account, they make me endorse it in front of them AND show i.d. They want you and your i.d. in front of them for anything.

Danieljude suggested opening money market accounts through Merrill Lynch. I know ML also has checking, but I don't know if it is available where you are at or on STT. They do have an office on STT. The phone # is 340.774.3000. Might try that. American Express also offers checking, although (of course) they aren't on any of the islands as far as having an actual physical location.

I'll give you a hint, Terry - larger than the size of a check, smaller than the Bank of St. Croix...thanks for the levity, sometimes we all get too serious!

Hi Ingetje.

I do not know of any bank on STT that will open an account without the applicants present. I believe this is one of many of their non-negotiable policies.
