Hi all,

I haven't been posting updates here. We are down in Costa Rica now, just about getting ready to leave and head to Panama.
Our time is now ticking and we were quite sad we couldn't spend more time in this amazingly beautiful country.

We hope to cross the Panama Canal by the end of this month, latest early May. So excited that we are finally coming closer to USVI.

Some of our latest updates are on the website here

We are enjoying our time and as always thanks for your support and comments on this forum and on the site, we really appreciate it.

Josie & Jerrad.

Hey all,

we are in Colombia right now and are planning to sail to Bonaire then from there straight to St. Croix. We are nearing the homestretch now!
Sailing lately has been challenging, especially with our deadline approaching and constantly stuck in our tiny boat.

But we are still enjoying our time, and we have updated our websites with stories from Panama here. - including sailing upwind and against the current, sailing in our first squall and the panama canal transit with captain underwear.

Hope you will enjoy reading them.

J&J

Hey folks,

after a long hiatus, we are working on getting back up to date. Into the Caribbean with our amazing first two stops: Portobelo - a small town with ruins of Old Spanish forts and San Blas islands - our idea of paradise on earth, where we celebrated our 4-yr anniversary.
You can read and enjoy the pics here

We've put up our story from Cartagena, Colombia here

The website is almost fully up to date and we will be in STX July 11!! For STX folks who knows a long-term rental available (1bd/bath or cottage type) or who know someone who is selling a car, let us know.
We've been keeping an eye in this forum as well.
Can't wait to be there!

Wow!

Glad you've chosen STX.

If you moor in Salt River I can see you from my Gallery:-)

Be safe crossing.

STXjill,

we're not in Chantal's path and everybody is OK. Thanks for checking up on us. I hope everybody there is safe too, been watching the storm. Hopefully it won't hit USVI much.

Hey folks,

we are sad to say that our goal of pulling up into a safe harbor in St. Croix did not happen. After almost 6 months and over 4000 NM sailed, our journey was cut short on June 2. We had some trouble off of the Colombian coast (not related to drug cartels or pirates...) and the boat was damaged beyond repair forcing us to abruptly end our voyage.

The complete story is here.

We have been back in California re-planning and organizing our move and will arrive in STX tomorrow! super excited. And we're glad Chantal has moved away from USVI.

We are still sad of losing Vento Dea... but at least finally now we are at the airport waiting for our flight to get to STX...after two years in the making, it's finally happening and can't wait to be there.

Hey folks!

Well, we've been in STX for a couple of days now .. doing the boring things like finding an apt, car, bank acct and PO box and DMV stuff. Lovin' STX so far though. We have updated our website with part 1of 3 of our ordeal in Colombia after our boat got hit by the wave. I must say if sailing for 6 months haven't prepared us for island living, our two weeks in Colombia after the boat accident would surely do the job.

The story is here

Enjoy, and thanks for the support and encouragement. Glad to finally be here.

After reading Pt 1 I am not sure I would have left Cabo de La Vela for the VI -- it looked beautiful and the people seem to be as friendly and real as possible.
You are right about the experience preparing you for anything the VI could put in your path - the language difficulty aside.
Best wishes for an enjoyable STX move.
Your writing style is enjoyable and I look forward to PT 2.

It was a really beautiful place with friendly people, but it was too isolated for me to stay there forever. I mean, getting anywhere or anything was like a whole-day ordeal, nothing is within reach. But I guess anybody will get used to that after sometime.
We have gone to the post office and BMV today, still have to go back to BMV at some point... but so far everything has been much better compared to what we had to deal with in Cartagena (that will be Part 2, btw, coming soon)..:D
Glad you enjoyed reading our blog.

Thanks AandA2VI.
Gidget is such a trooper dog.... we're very proud of her, and she still loves us after all we've put her through *-)
Let us know when you come down here. BTW, kudos on your awesome garden, we might have to get some tips in the near future. We too are interested in starting some gardening and becoming semi-sustainable here in the island. 🙂

Wow! So sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful boat but glad you both and your pup survived the ordeal and made it to STX.
What a frightening thing to have happen.
Hope you will enjoy "island life" here in the VI/STX.
Good luck and let us know how tings go.
I have enjoyed the blogs. Hope you keep it up.;)

Thank you Alana.
It was quite an ordeal, seemed like it happened so long ago but it was only a month and a half. We are enjoying island life so far... between cleaning the house we moved into, running errands and job interviewing, we are trying to update the site and put up the rest of our adventure in Colombia. Thanks for reading our blog. 🙂
