I have people in central Florida ask me all the time if it gets as hot as it does in Florida during the summer months. I ask them if they are kidding and they look at me like no. I tell them that these are tropical Islands that are hot most of the time. But I also tell them that it also depends on where you are located on the Islands because I have been to certain portions of St. Thomas during the height of summer and was very comfortable without A/C due to the cross winds and ocean breezes. Then again, I have been to the Eastend during the Spring months and felt like I was melting.

Recorded temperature last night on the North side was 73 degrees and it was likely colder than that with the wind chill factor. Town temperature was 77+. I put on a sweater and socks, closed a couple of louvers and went to bed early to snuggle up under the comforter ...

My experience of Florida summers is the blasts of miserable drippy humidity which is rare here. There's a good overview of island weather under the first drop-down menu top of this page so you could direct your friends there!

OMG it was so gloriously cool last night!!!!!

I put on a long sleeved shirt and had to put another one on over that. Plus socks. But I didn't put on jammy bottoms - stayed in my shorts. I think it was the coldest night we've had since last winter!

When living in Houston we ran the AC 24/7 most the year.

We've lived here for 16 years without AC.

Does it get hot here? Yes! Never much over 95 degrees though.

Does it feel like the heat in the US south. No!
Thank the lower humidity and trade winds.

The "Christmas winds" is the local term for the trade winds which got the name as they start to return around Christmas time and go through in bursts before starting to die down around March.

I'm easily hot. Big fan of AC. Last night .... I was under the blanket!
Haven't had AC on here since probably September and that month was just a couple of times. Guess I'm getting a little used to it

I am jealous!!! Today was the first time in 5+ months I have worn shorts and a tee shirt outside. Made up to the mid-70's today. Our BR is at 67- 68 and it is chilly in the AM.

I can't wait until I get cold when it is in the 70's. 🙂

8 weeks until first PMV. 😉

80 degrees in central NC today.

I actually use central FL as the comparison when asked is it hot in VI. Way worse in the heat of summer in FL than VI in my opinion. Temp and humidity.

I'm FREEZING! I've been so cold for the last two days. I can't believe I ever used to think that 73 was swimming weather... in Lake Michigan nonetheless. I think I would have to be on fire to swim in the Great Lakes any more.

The weather the last few days has made me realize once again - I am not interested in dealing with cold winters - this is winter enough for me.

Swimming in the Great Lakes -- i sailed all the way up there from here one summer and when the VI ladies aboard dove in Lake Erie they got back on the boat and said " That water is nipply!"

I did the Polar Plunge in Sea Isle City, NJ a few times. My last time, the air temp was 28 degrees and the water was 42 degrees. The next day my wife and I started to consider relocating to the islands.

Enjoyed this thread, I must agree with those who say Florida summers can be hotter than those in the VI. We have been to the VI's several times, mostly during the months of Nov, Dec and Jan. Our most recent visit was intentionally during the summer time just to see of we could tolerate the summer heat in the tropics. We spent the entire month of July without central air better than I would have ever imagined (we did use the window unit to sleep at night). Another "nicety" I thought I would have a hard time giving up was my long hot showers in the morning. Turns out that wasn't a problem at all...in fact all I wanted was cold showers and the water was never cold enough! 82 days and counting.

I like not having to wait for the hot water to get to the shower head.

Loving the cool weather, rain and winds.
Surf's definitely up! Be careful of rip tides.
Great difference from last year when mid February was the end of any rain, besides a light drizzle, for months on end.

You'll love St. Thomas Treeman. But then all of the Islands are nice. We'll be visiting family on St. Thomas in May for a few weeks.
