I think they are safe to eat. I remember my grandmother using a flour sifter to get them out of her flour.

Since this thread started I have done some research and found that the FDA says it is impossible to have foods free of insects, and allows a percentage of insects and insect fragments into the foods we eat. Insects are a good source of protein and nutrients, and common in Asian, African and South American diets. So, we eat insects, but our government protects our delicate sensibilities by burying that information in the fine print of obscure documents, and everywhere else people eat insects, fully aware that they are choosing to do so. I'm sure that says something about us, but I don't want to go there.

Have you ever heard of that "myth" that says each human eats about 5 spiders per year from them crawling into our mouths while we are sleeping? Since we are in such a bug-friendly environment, perhaps VI'ers eat even more per year!! Yummy!

My sensibilites have changed so much here. I used to be so afraid and gross out by bugs. Now, if there is a bug floating in my drink (and there usually is) I just pick it out and drink the rest.

I returned to Plaza Friday...same bugs in the same isle still for sale...why do we even have a DLCA or DH? Silly me for thinking that our government might take a positive action to the concern.

I think we should get a megaphone and announce it to the whole store. Something like this, People there are bugs in the pasta on aisle ?. Theses bugs have been on the shelf a month even though I pointed them out to management. People you are feeding your children bugs. You are paying for bugs. Make Plaza get rid of their bugs.

I had an experience wigth Plaza West last year that involved rat poop in ground beef!!! I took pictures and went to health dept. They were out there that day! I called the store and spoke with the manager to notify him of what had happened and to expect the health dept. He assured me that didn't happen...?? He did end up paying for my groceries that day, but rest assured I will not be buying anyhting from their meat or deli dept.
