Happy Monday!

I own a private finess and sports training studio on the main land and hope to continue my profession in some form on the islands. Does any one know much about the fitness training scene. I travel to homes with equipment as well. I have spoken to the gym on STJ and have gotten the info I need from them (which sounds positive) I am not really looking to buy that gym now, maybe in the future! I started from scratch the first time and will do it again. I was just hoping from some feed back. Currently I have a very exclusive client list. I am extremely private and offer confidentiallity as well as excellent training services. Because of this I have earned the ability to also do house/dog/child sitting at great rates for these clients. Any help appreciated! Thanks

Sarah

I would suggest that the info they gave you would ONLY be positive since they are trying to sell the gym. I would think that any information they give you should be looked at very carefully. After all they are in the midst of selling.

Since you're not opening a physical location the information they give you might really not be applicable. My wife will use the gym a few times while we're down. Not sure what the market is for individualized fitness trainers.

Remember it has a small population

By and large I think the pop here is pretty healthy. It a pop that would prefer fish any day of the week over something like filet migon. Women here tend to have a healthier body image then stateside IMO. On stx you see people out exercising early in the morning. Beeston hill here seems to do pretty well but the others are always in danger of closing. But with the sheer number of hotels in stt I imagine there would be work there, for someone they can call when a guest wants a personal tranier. And well there is always the beach... Theres always someone here offering a yoga class or boot camp on the beach. So you would have no overhead and well there's always someone who willing to be tortured for pretty scenery. 🙂

Hello Sarah,

You could try speaking with the folks at the Westin's fitness center. Also Maho has classes and retreats that are fitness oriented - might be worth seeing what they have going too.

Good Luck.

I've been going to the Rehab/fittness Center at Beeson Hill - STX - for 6 weeks and I am amazed at the number of people they have in there daily. Some are rehabbing from surgery or injury, but many come in daily to exercise. I've been here almost 4 years and seen Beeston Hill, but never realized how busy they are.

Thanks for the ideas/comments/suggestions! I am always amazed at the number of people both healthy/ fit and or injured or unfit people who seek my services for many reasons. many people I have had for over five years! fitness is such a growing trend among many financial profiles, though I suppose this will be some what different on the islands. i have spoken with a woman at gym in paradise and the fees are very similar to what i charge and she suggested they were quite busy with training and I wouldn't have much trouble starting up. Also I am open to working a variety of places around the island (STJ). Beach bootcamps are particularly fun! In general I perfer to charge a more reasonable amount and get more people interested then exclude people with ultra high prices. I also do quite a bit of post physical therapy exercise rehabilitation. Just in case anyone cares I am certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise. I am alos working towards becoming a nutritionist. Maybe in time I will be able to open my own small studio on STJ. I am sure that will be quite a process!
